Virginia's Finance Secretary Reassures Lawmakers On Revenues

The Virginia's finance secretary said that the state revenues will not fall short as per its forecast when the fiscal year ends.

Richmond Times-Dispatch reported that Secretary Richard D. Brown reassured the lawmakers on Thursday that although the state had took a punch in the month of April, Virginia's revenues ended in the month at about $130 million ahead of the forecast for the fiscal year ending on June 30. However, the revenues ended in April at about $185 million less than what was projected at the end of March.

The April month's biggest problem was that a drop of more than 17 percent in the income taxes not withheld from the payroll but made in the estimated payments. Virginia state received about 40,000 fewer checks in the month April than the year before, and also the checks were 9 percent smaller than the previous.

Brown also said that Virginia narrowed the gap in the month of May to about 10,000 fewer checks.
