Youths arrested for Aiding the Islamic State

Nine Northern Virginia residents were arrested by Law enforcement agencies on the charges of aiding the Islamic State. Since Islamic group rose to power in Iraq and Syria from 2014 they have launched a social media propaganda to attract Islamic followers to radical Islam.

The Northern Virginia Regional Intelligence Center, issued social media profiles of the nine residents in a December 21st report labeled “Law enforcement Sensitive”.

These types of reports are designed by federal agents to recognize trends in the types of individuals who get influenced by the Islamic State’s message and how do they communicate across terrorist networks.

The Somalis who are living in Minnesota receives the most press attention in the US  for wanting to help the Islamic state organization.

In April FBI arrested six residents of Somali origin after they made some arrangements to leave for Syria.

In December 2015 a 20 year old man from Somali was arrested for leading a group of ethnic Somalis attempting to fight for ISIS.

The report of Northern Virginia shows that Muslims who are seeking to help Islamic state lives near the seat of U.S. government.

The Nine Virginians who were arrested on the charge of aiding the Islamic state, all but one are in their teens and early 20s, one of them was a police officer and others worked in Starbucks Barista, bank and cab driver, and Army soldiers.

Among nine of them, four graduated from Northern Virginia high schools, one with honors and the other two attended Northern Virginia Community College.

All of them had the opportunity via public education to become a successful American but instead they choose to join Islamic group.

They are suspected for conducting terrorism planning through Facebook, Whatsapp, twitter and other platforms and apps of social media.

Robert Maginnis, who is a retired Army officer and researcher on Islamism said that “Local police are in a difficult situation”, they face a severe challenge by these Islamists, who all operate in the shadows of our open society. These activists are mostly young Muslim males, radicalized either by Islamist imams at some of the thousands of mosques across America, at school, or over the ever-present internet sites that spew anti-West, anti-Christian hatred.”
