Adobe, a technology company located in San Jose, conducted its yearly creativity event, Adobe Max 2025, last October. At this occasion, the company revealed a range of new features powered by AI for its productivity products and applications, including an upgrade for the AI assistant in its image editing software, Photoshop. Now, the company has shared that the public beta version of this AI Assistant in Photoshop is open for users. Furthermore, the technology company has declared that it is rolling out new features in the Firefly Image Editor, enabling users to eliminate backgrounds from images and add or enhance elements within a picture using a command. On Tuesday, the tech firm announced that the public beta version of the AI assistant feature in Photoshop is ready for users to try. Individuals can use the new feature on both the web and mobile app versions of Adobe's image editing software. It is also accessible through Adobe Firefly. Until April 9, the company is offering unlimited image creations and edits with the AI assistant for paid Photoshop users. However, those using the free version can only create up to 20 image edits with the new AI tool.
With the new AI assistant in Photoshop, users can modify images by giving a text description to the AI tool. For instance, users can instruct the AI assistant in Photoshop to eliminate distractions from a picture or request a change to the photo's background. Additionally, Adobe indicates that it can also enhance lighting and modify colors, contrast, and saturation of any image. While the AI assistant in Photoshop can automatically apply changes and requested improvements, it can also offer a step-by-step guide for users who prefer to make adjustments on their own. On the Photoshop web version, the public beta of Adobe's AI assistant-enabled AI Markup is also available in the taskbar. It functions like the Markup tool in Photoshop, which allows users to select a specific object in their project. However, with AI Markup, users can also edit the chosen part only using a text command. For example, users may select a ball in an image with the AI Markup tool and then ask the AI assistant in Photoshop to alter the ball's color.
Alongside the launch of the AI assistant in Photoshop, the tech company has rolled out new features for the Firefly Image Editor, such as the Generative Fill tool, which enables users to add, swap, or enhance elements. The company has also introduced the Generative Remove tool, along with capabilities for Generative Expand, Generative Upscale, and Remove Background. These new tools are available worldwide.
